Posts Tagged ‘Spirituality’

A few years ago someone I knew was promoting himself as a spiritual coach. Inadvertently the word that he typed on his profile was ‘spiritual couching’ instead of spiritual coaching. Its funny how these ‘Freudian slips’ can be very revealing. Something deep from our unconscious knows how to communicate and express itself through meaningful coincidences even through mistypes and miscommunication.

Yes, we all need to reflect on this – all thanks to my acquaintance who made this slip and taught us a valuable lesson. Are we in the danger of becoming ‘spiritual couches’ who are passive livers than active spiritualists? Do we misunderstand and misinterpret much of our ‘spiritual’ new age gurus’ teachings are many of these teachings true in the first place? Read on to know what all ‘is’ and is not being spiritual in this ‘new age’ world.

Myth: Being Effortless = Being Lazy.

Truth: Relax, receive and effortlessly attract, these new age principles do not mean we should be ‘couch potatoes’ just sitting and waiting for the apple to drop right into our mouth. Yes we receive the fruits of our karma effortlessly when the time is ‘ripe’ but hey – don’t forget to sow the seeds and water them. When the fruit is ripe it will fall down on its own, for sure. But go and prepare your soil first, get your tools out, dig and delve, sow and grow, nourish, be patient – it takes effort. Some karma is required for us so invest into your life and surely the returns will flow back to you. All the ‘effortless’ things you have received in the present life are your past life fruits ripening up now. Being ready to receive has helped. New age spirituality helps you be more ‘ready’ and receive your fruits, but do not mistake this receptivity state for being lazy and dull.

Myth: The Universe is Within = We should be self centered/ selfish.

Truth: The definition of within needs to change. Who are you? Know thyself. The Universe is within means expand your consciousness – you are not just your limited lower self, your body, your material possessions, your limited mind. Make your mind more unlimited and see how everything in the universe is part of your Self. The universe is within this greater ‘Self’ not in your narrow and contrived notions of your selfishness. To be selfish is to love only your limited self or your lower self. To be self loving is quite a different approach. It means to love everything and everyone including yourself. It means being aware that love is not something very limited that can be either given to yourself or to others, but an endless energy flowing to all in ever increasing amounts. Be generous and expand yourself- reach out and love everything and everyone as part of you.

Myth: The Secret and Law of Attraction = Pursue Material Goals All The Time

Truth: So you have read all these new age books and they seem to tell you that the universe exists to serve your lower needs of food, sex, shopping, diamonds, fashion and beauty? Just tell me one thing. Do you ever meditate and is there any substitute to your inner peace? Can any amount of food, sex, glamour and money buy you peace? No, you do not exist merely to accumulate and gather material comforts. Having money and things is simply not a state of true abundance. Being spiritual is all about being aware of your spirit nature, your real self, at all times. There will actually come a point when you will no longer ‘hunger’ for anything, ‘crave’ for anything, be ‘needy’ for anything. Being content is possible – make that you.

Myth: Being Positive = Thinking Positive (Doing good is secondary)

Truth: There is so much hype created around positive thinking that the worst of criminals have been projecting themselves as spiritual people. Some ‘spiritual’ people actually believed that they could get away with anything and everything by just thinking positive and imagining all kind of good things happening to them right now even while indulging in negative activities on the side. The truth is you simply cannot delete or cancel out your negativity just through superficial thoughts. Being positive right now is a great thing and this includes positive actions. You need to transform all over – mind, body and soul. You need to start doing only positive things else it will be very difficult for your inner or unconscious mind to believe that you are a good person and you deserve good. Our unconscious mind is way beyond our conscious thoughts and affirmations. We have to change the way we live into something phenomenally positive in order to be truly positive.

Myth: Joy and Bliss = Drunkenness

Truth: Being in a state of spiritual bliss is very different from the ‘trance’ you induce through drunken dancing, substance abuse and lewd sexual performances. ‘New-agers’ reveling in pagan rituals that focus on excessive enjoyment do feel great for the short run but the effects wear off. A real ritual should empower you and shift your consciousness so deeply that you never need any drugs, alcohol and sexuality to stimulate yourself ‘spiritually’. Real paganism is about being in tune with nature through our inner meditative state, not just an external but an inner connection that is expressed outwards in such beautiful ways that even a child can feel safe in your rituals. Truly children require no drugs to dance, play and be merry – so why should we? Be in tune with you inner child and give yourself only those things you know are good for the child within. Be in a natural state of deep inner bliss.

Earthquakes are felt on the surface, there is peace at the core.

In the circle of life, we experience ups and downs, highs and lows, trials and tribulations – only if we are superficial.

Going within in the first step to experiencing peace. At first it is challenging, there are many distractions in the outer world of superficiality. Only the one who meditates goes within. That is how it all begins – the journey of magick – to find your power of spiritual consciousness. You see the suffering all around. You feel for the world, not just yourself. You seek healing and love. You have made an intention. You are ready for transformation.

At a deeper level we are not only aware of the superficiality, there is also a temptation to return to the outer world and engage in the same cycles of unconscious karma. Only the one who persists goes truly within. You hear the voices of chatter – the hollow sounds of laughter and cries of ignorance. You see the sights that excite and depress. You are tempted to engross in them – to be a victim once again – to blame, curse, suffer. You meet your inner devil luring you away from yourself. You choose to love yourself. That is how it continues, the path of magick -through dedication. You stay on the path – the straight path that goes within. Through sattva or the middle pillar of the tree of life you travel within. Through your chakras from earth to crown you journey on. Towards your center..you focus…focus and focus …shedding all the layers one by one…from one initiation to the other…going on deeper and deeper within. Letting go of your personalities and facades…leaving behind all your shadows to meet your inner light of truth.

At the innermost and deepest level, we are aware of the outer superficiality, but established in our innermost core. Unfazed by the highs and lows of the outer world, we have found a perfect grounding in our spirit, the inner self. We are at the apex of our being …which is the axle of the wheel. We turn the wheel through inner magick…no longer trapped in the automatic and semi-automatic, unconscious and subconscious cycles of destiny or fate. We have arrived, only to return again – but when we return we are not the same – something has changed forever. The gold that can no longer be corrupted. This is alchemy.

The lotus blooms in the muddy waters, untouched and unpolluted, only to spread love and light.

As we change the world changes too.

You create and dream…the world is shaped around your consciousness. As you row your boat gently down the stream

…the wheel turns, merrily this time….

Blessed Be!

Silence

No thoughts to think
No songs to sing
Where there is nothing
There is silence

No words to say
No games to play
Where there is noone
There is silence

No fights or hating
No rush or waiting
Where there is no question
There is silence

Where you must close your eyes to see
Where there is neither you nor me
Where there is truth
There is silence

There is no fear
There is love here
There is peace and joy
And there is silence

Where there is noise
When you raise a voice
When I hear words
I hear silence

In everything i see
Only the joy of eternity
Even where there is anger
There is silence

In laughter, in cries
In pain and in vice
Every where inside
There is silence

Look anywhere, in anything
Deep within
You will find
There is silence

To heal, to change, to cause
The greatest power ever was
In past, in future, right now, always
There is silence

We are witches, we cast spells

For everything to be all well

While others gather arms and guns

We believe in Harming None

Those who try to kill and burn

Will soon begin to lessons learn

Its natures law, do as you will

You cannot ever spirit kill

Soon reborn from ash and dust

Is life eternal, ever just

That’s why we witches celebrate

And simply write and seal our fate

By earth and fire, wind and sea

By the Goddess Blessed Be

12. Sleep well. Care not for any obligations. Sleep is priority and I like to sleep early at night and until i wake up myself. No alarms required. I know some of you are nightbirds, but taking your full eight hours of beauty sleep is so essential. Catching up later in the day is impractical and just not as relaxing. I have found its best to complete my sleep at night. Early to bed and early to rise is definitely recommended by me.

13. Play. Even before I became a mum I loved playing. Especially with kids in the park outdoors and board games indoors. Stop playing and you lose a vital part of you.

14. Dance. This is my favourite exercise and hobby. You should be able to dance anywhere, without alchohol and without embarrassment. Dancing rejuvinates all our chakras and shakes off all the negativity out of the aura. A lot of Wiccan and ancient pagan rituals involve rhythmic body movement and dancing as these are great for healing.

15. Generosity without expectation. This truly helps in releasing two major blockages towards healing, namely guilt and fear. Give to others and yourself good energy, blessings, prosperity, help…. freely and often. Do not haggle or drain others. Give happily. Accept happily without guilt when you receive likewise.

16. No Watch. I stopped wearing a watch when I was a teen. Life is better ever since. Your body has its own inner clock…let that guide you. A lot of tension gets relieved as a result when your intuition takes over and you go with the flow instead of racing about daily.

17. Clear up the clutter. Keeping your cupboard, attic, basement, all rooms, office drawers, desk clean, well sorted and organised is the key to solving many many problems in life including health. Good energy flows better without clogging. Healing flows in.

18. Don’t stock up medicines. I do not say never use medicines. Unless absolutely necessary and prescribed at that point of time, don’t collect medicines because you want to be prepared. Do not create that kind of potential energy. Everything you collect wants to be used someday. I have kept medicines at bay for many many years now and trust me, have not invited much of illness either. Work on your chakras, learn healing, there is plenty of prevention and less need for cure when you take healing right from childhood. Do not wait for a medical emergency to start with healing please.

19. No harmful substances. I assure you spiritual power does not require any harmful drug, smoking, alcohol intake or any harmful practice of any kind. These are tamasic or negative substances and their effects can never be good in any way. Even Shiva brought up the poison, he never absorbed it. So don’t think religious or ritualistic intake in the name of any god is a great liberator. Do not let even tea or coffee control you. Be your own master.

20. No hurry. Walk slowly, admire the flowers, smile at people, breathe…consciously…we are immortal. Its a myth that we live just once…you can live this life as many times as needed… It can be better each time. Enjoy growing older, its a journey of your soul. The body will adapt and age beautifully. I have had gray hair since childhood and no fear of graying. I have no problem gaining age either. Its another word for experience. Why do we want to hold on to youth. As long as you remain healthy and wise let age advance. Do not fear ageing, death, or life itself. A lot of people feel they must end the cycle of rebirth and hurry up with their spirituality so that this birth is assured to be their final birth. This reveals a fear and a major blockage. Let it go. Life and afterlife and life after life are all beautiful. We are energy, one and many at the same time. Energy changes form and is never really destroyed. With awareness we consciously transform in a positive direction. We have always existed and will always exist though not in the same form or multiplicity. Infinite life is ours.

Blessed be

Day and night until today
For their own needs all people prayed
Their little worlds of woes and fears
Their little ones, all near and dear
Each one worried for their own
For their own things their love was shown
Mundane are lives so full of care
Victims of their own despair
And all along all of this time
While most were I, me, self and mine
A world of wonders hid in dark
Unseen by all except a spark
Those few who cared of things unknown
Who looked beyond what was their own
Who let their egos melt and merge
Into the One who they researched
Who focused, wondered and rejoiced
Who stood their ground and made their choice
Inspite of those who tried to kill
Their wisdom, knowledge and free will
Yes witches, wizards, people wise
Survived the darkness, force and lies
They patiently awaited for
A time reborn just like before
When sense and righteousness return
When people care to live and learn
The truths and mysteries of olde
Those things that turned to stories told
The legends, lore and myths all great
The ways to spin the yarns of fate
Those things you read in fairytales
Might just be true, follow the trails
The fairies, dragons, gnomes and sprites
And elements of power and might
The gods and goddesses are near
They want to see your love, not fear
All aspects of the universe
Parts of your soul you are meant to search
They are all around and all about
You never really gave a shout
Magick right below your nose
And all you saw were your own toes
You shrunk your mind and closed your heart
Refusing to accept your part
In your delusion you were stoned
You thought the earth was human owned
For those who wanted all the power
Spread their darkness very far
They broke the bridges to your soul
They blocked intuition, burnt the lore
They spread false fears and spoilt the name
So that the witches hung in shame
But you can’t hide the light for long
Soon the flame will burn all strong
For the Goddess is alive
She is your spirit and your life
Worship Her, your higher self
Better still, just cast a spell
But think beyond just little things
Soar above, now find your wings
About your higher nature learn
Retrace your path, to Her return

So many people speak of being spiritual these days.
Many like being called spiritual, not religious…(as if religion were a four letter word that has done no good…but Gawd, wasn’t this is the way it was experienced until the new age of Wicca, a spiritual scientific religion…but that’s besides the point)

The point is…what is being spiritual all about?
Is it about saffron robes, hooded capes, turbans, hats and other fancy dress?
Is it about being men with long grey hair on their chins and heads and large imposing decorations on the forehead?
Is it about sitting in tight postures and closed eyes for an hour or two?
Is it about chanting in sanskrit, greek or latin, especially in the middle of perfectly ordinary conversations?
(All of which I admit will make quite an instant impression in public and may even get a few to come over and touch your feet…and secretly many of our holy men owe their sudden and humungous popularity more to this drama and less to their teachings)

Now what is the meaning of being spiritual (and not just showing it)?

Firstly the word ‘spiritual’ is composed of spirit, which means it has to do something with our inner self. But in that case we all have this spirit within…right. Quite right, however not everyone was so far equally bothered about the spirit within us all…which largely differentiates being spiritual from being purely material in our awareness and behaviour.

We are born when spirit takes material or physical form through us and our surroundings. Hence from ever since we are born we are taught in our schools, colleges and nurseries, very vaguely, about how to conduct ourselves in the material world (even if focused mainly on theory than practice). Its another thing that we also learn through people and experiences over and above our school curricula, a whole lot of things I would rather put very ironically in the category of how NOT to conduct our life in the material world. But yes most of us are somewhat aware of our material body and surroundings, even if we are not quite adept at handling them very well.

But the fact that we are made of spirit in essence was revealed rather late to most people if revealed at all. And even if this were revealed, the first (or even second or third or fourth) reaction to this was…why should it matter? Yes spirit is not matter, but that doesnt mean that it doesnt matter. The interelationship of spirit and matter is of importance here.

Now Spirit (and I am not talking of our personal spirits or lost spirits but of Spirit) or Goddess or God if you prefer,  has created our matter or material life as quite beautiful and positive. It is through non awareness and mis-understanding of Spirit that we have abused, spoilt or eroded our material world. By getting in touch with the Spirit we can once again restore a loving balance and harmony in our lives and surroundings (and also heal our own little lost spirits or souls which expand and feel complete on integration with the Spirit).

Learn how to get in touch with the Spirit (even if you call it by another name such as Source, Universe, Goddess, God) through the right ways of meditation. And …also equally importantly, learn how to bring the beauty and wisdom of the Spirit into your daily existence by way of energy healing spells that channel the Spirit energy into the material world in accordance with the motto of As Above, So Below, or as Inside so Outside, or as With In so With Out.
